I’ve been obsessed with açaí berries for a while now. I discovered my passion for them a couple of years ago in Cali. If you don’t know what açaí is, it’s a purple fruit that has many great nutritional benefits. It is full of antioxidants (plant-based chemicals which are great for overall health and fighting free radicals within the body), and has a good source of nutrients.
I’m going to show you my favourite and very simple açaí bowl recipe – perfect for breakfast, brunch meal, snack, etc. The recipe can be adjusted to include your favorite fruits and toppings of course, the bowl tastes amazing with any other fruit included – for example: mango, raspberries, blueberries, kiwi .. . Many people includes an almond milk or other non-dairy milk as well but I usually don’t.
What you’ll need for 2 servings:
- Frozen Acai puree
- 2 frozen bananas
- Frozen strawberries
- 100% orange juice
- Fresh banana/strawberries/etc. for the topping
- Honey – or Maple syrup if you’re vegan.
First, break the frozen açaí into smaller pieces and put it in a blender. Then cut up the frozen banana and strawberries into smaller chunks and add that in with some orange juice. Personally, I like my açaí bowls to be thicker but it is up to you, so when you are happy with the consistency, pour it in a bowl and top with your favourite fruits, granola (you can also add some nuts, cacao nibs, chia seeds, bee pollen ..) and honey/maple syrup.
And you’re done after only 5 minutes or so. Easy, right? 🙂 I hope this simple recipe encourages you to try making your own açaí bowl. Enjoy your yummy breakfast/snack!
